How to manage Direct debits
Find out how to manage Direct debits in Internet Banking
Many people use Direct debits as a way of paying regular bills that vary in amount each time. Companies (like your phone service provider) take the money directly from your account, with your agreement, and with strict guarantees to protect you.
Internet Banking lets you:
- View lists and details of Direct debits set up on your accounts
- Cancel existing Direct debits
View your Direct debits
- Select 'Direct debit' from the 'Payments menu'
- You'll be presented with a list of all your current Direct debits, showing who they're payable to (the 'originator', the last reference number, the last time they were debited from your account, and the last amount
- To view more details about each Direct debit, just click on the originator name.
Cancel a Direct debit
- Simply click the 'Cancel direct debit' button on the 'Direct debits detail' screen or 'Cancel' on the Direct debit list screen
- Confirm the cancellation by entering your Internet Banking password and clicking the 'Submit' button. Cancellation of a Direct debit must be carried out within the notification period.
Please note that once a Direct debit has been cancelled it will continue to appear in your list for 13 months. This period is not determined by Internet Banking and is a Bank standard.
